About
How good is your eye?
Guesstimate is a free daily game about estimating. How full is that glass? How many dots just flashed past? How long is three seconds? Five short rounds, about two minutes, and the same puzzles for everyone that day.
How a day works
- Every day has five rounds. Pour and Flash are in every set; the other three rotate among the remaining games.
- Each round scores 0 to 100 points depending on how close you get, so a perfect day is 500.
- Your result shows as five squares: green for 80 points or more, yellow for 50 to 79, red for less than 50. You can copy it and share it without giving away the answers.
- The day follows your own clock. Puzzle No. 13 is 27 October for everyone, so a player in New York gets it hours after a player in Shanghai. A new set starts at your local midnight.
- Only your first try of the day counts on the leaderboard. Practice as much as you like in practice mode.
The games
- PourGuess how full a glass, flask or vase is by volume, not by height. A wine glass that looks half full holds far less than half its volume.Scoring: you lose 3 points for every percentage point you're off.
- FlashThree frames of dots flash by, one after another. Guess the total across all three.Scoring: 10% off scores 75 points; 40% off or more scores 0.
- AngleRead an angle in degrees, by eye, from 0 to 180.Scoring: you lose 3 points for every degree you're off.
- CenterTap the exact center of a circle or an arc, or the midpoint of a line.Scoring: the further from the true center, the fewer points. Miss by more than about a sixteenth of the board's width and you score 0.
- HoldHold a button for exactly the target time, with no clock and no ticking.Scoring: 10% too long or too short scores 60 points; 25% off scores 0.
- ShadeMemorize a color, then pick which of two shades is closer to it. Five picks, each one harder.Scoring: 20 points for each correct pick.
- GlimpseKeep your eyes on the center while a star flashes for a split second somewhere else. Tap where it was.Scoring: the closer your tap, the more points. Miss by an eighth of the board or more and you score 0.
- BounceWatch a ball fly, then predict where it lands after it bounces off the walls, out of sight in the fog.Scoring: the closer your tap to where it lands, the more points.
- BallparkEstimate a product, a sum or a percentage before 7 seconds run out. Exact maths isn't the point.Scoring: 10% off scores about 80 points. Off by a factor of about 1.6 either way, and you score 0.
Glimpse, Bounce and Ballpark are inspired by classic brain-training games, but like every Guesstimate game they reward how close you get instead of right or wrong.
Practice
Every game has a practice mode of five rounds that get harder as you go. Practice scores never go on the leaderboard, and your best practice score for each game is shown on the home screen.
The daily leaderboard
After the daily five you see your rank against everyone who played the same puzzle that day, wherever they live. Ranks keep moving until midnight in the last time zone on Earth, when that day's board closes.
Account or guest
You can play as a guest without signing up. Guests pick a name the first time they post a score, and their streak and best scores are saved in their own browser.
With a free account your name is reserved on the leaderboard, so nobody else can post under it, and your streak, games played, best day and today's result follow you to every device. If you played as a guest first, the scores you posted on that device move into your new account. You can delete your account at any time from the account screen.
Questions
Why does my friend abroad have a different puzzle?
Because it's a different date where they are. Everyone gets the same puzzle on the same calendar day, so check again after their midnight or yours.
